Ecoalf; Best for the World, Not the Biggest
Ecoalf is a certified B-Corporation, founded by Javier Goveneche in 2009, with an emphasis on doing better for people and the planet. The brand creates thoughtful pieces for men, women and children, even including footwear! Ecoalf puts much of their effort into creating sustainable, ethical clothing with traceable materials and suppliers, all while creating their own initiatives to give back to people and the planet outside of their own products.
Ecoalf is aware of the current environmental crisis, and therefore aims to make products that do not exploit natural resources further than the fashion industry already has. To make the lowest negative impact on the environment possible, Ecoalf focuses heavily on the materials with which they create their clothing. Most of their products are made using recycled PET which is mainly recycled plastic water bottles, as well as ECONYL recycled nylon made from recycled fishing nets and pre-consumer nylon waste.
All collections for women, men and kids offer regular streetwear from tops to knitwear, skirts, athletic wear, pants amongst other styles. On top of their wide selection of clothing, they also sell sneakers for the whole family. Many of the sneakers are crafted from 100% recycled nylon uppers, with 97% recycled interior lining. All footwear by Ecoalf is also vegan, and some parts of their collections are made entirely of recycled plastic bottles to accompany their Upcycling the Oceans Initiative.
Each product page features a rating for their environmental and social impacts, as well as their traceability throughout the products’ lifecycles. This transparency displays incredible commitment to demonstrate the true impacts of fast fashion to consumers; a large step in the right direction for fashion.
On top of their dedication to minimizing their negative environmental impacts, Ecoalf started their own foundation to make an even better impact on the environment. Their main goal as a non-profit organization is to promote waste recovery in fashion and related industries to reduce harmful effects of human waste on the environment. Their foundation inspired the Upcycling the Oceans Initiative, a global movement that began in the Mediterranean and now takes place all over the world. This recycling initiative is growing consistently through the years and has already made an incredible impact from the efforts of so many volunteers.
Ecoalf’s widespread initiatives do not stop there; as an effort to spread awareness and get more people involved, Ecoalf uses their media presence and power as a company to spread the notion that “There is no planet B.” Slogans like these in their use in media and clothing print affect communities everywhere positively by engaging more people in the conversation. Ecoalf knows that our planet is in critical condition and is not waiting to act on it.
