Based in the United Arab Emirates, The Giving Movement (TGM) is an ethical, sustainable brand that aims to give back to the community. Besides manufacturing their products sustainably and ethically, they give $4 from every sale to various charities.

The Giving Movement’s ethos is simple; to create products that do not harm the planet, and that help those who need it the most. The $4 donation added on by TGM is included with the purchase of each garment and is spread between two non-profits: Harmony House and Dubai Cares. Harmony House is an organization that helps women and children in need by providing education, nutrition, healthcare, hygiene services and more at two shelters in Delhi, India. Dubai Cares provides access to quality education for youth in 60 developing countries.

As for their fashion, TGM is an active and streetwear brand for both men and women. Their high-quality basics are manufactured from sustainable materials, with complete transparency regarding their fabrics available on each product page. Much of the streetwear is made from 100% Organic cotton and bamboo fleece, made from biodegradable bamboo pulp. This material makes products soft and breathable, but still with mid-weight for best quality.

The Giving Moment also creates sustainable activewear from recycled plastic, creating breathable, stretchy, and squat-proof garments in a variety of colors. The activewear is manufactured mainly from recycled polyester that is made entirely from post-consumer plastic water bottles. The Softskin range of activewear is soft, anti-odour and quick dry, all while being made sustainably. 

TGM’s commitment to sustainability is also evident in their manufacturing processes, which all take place locally in the UAE, significantly lowering their carbon footprint. The packaging in which garments are shipped is also biodegradable and is encouraged to be composted to break down within 26 weeks. Efforts are made to combat overproduction by numbering each and every piece of clothing produced, as can be seen on each garment’s individual label. TGM is already doing plenty to innovate sustainable practices in the fashion industry, and plans to become a certified zero-waste company in the near future.

On top of implementing sustainable practices, The Giving Movement also guarantees ethical employment of all manufacturing workers in the UAE. All workers are paid living wages with proper working hours, and are provided with protective equipment and the ability to unionise.
